Kim and Charles Petty - Real Estate Investing Royalty
About us: Charles is originally from Chicago, IL. He holds a Law Degree from Duke Law School and an MBA from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business. Before becoming a full time real estate investor, Charles worked as a corporate and securities attorney for two Atlanta law firms. Kimberly, his wife, is originally from Louisville, KY. She holds a Masters of Arts in International Development from the University of Kentucky’s Patterson School of Development and International Commerce. She worked in Marketing for Ericsson, Inc prior to going into real estate full-time.
We begin investing in real estate 9 years ago. We wanted to be able to make our own choices and determine our own worth. We wanted to become their own bosses and set their own hours. We wanted to have a family and be able to spend quality time together. We also wanted to make a positive difference in other people's lives and in the community. We began buying and holding rental properties in 1998. They rehabbed the majority of these properties, and rented them out. Many, but not all of our tenants were on Section 8. At one point, we, through their own holdings, joint venture partnerships and family partnerships owned over 80 rental units.
But we realized that a real estate investor, as long as he or she has a system can reap great rewards from buying and selling properties as well as buying and holding properties. We currently buy and sell up to 10 properties per month and have been involved in over 700 real estate transactions in the last 8 years, through wholesaling, retailing, lease options and rental properties.
Through trial and error, we have learned the ins and outs of wholesaling, retailing, lease options and property management and translated this knowledge into Multi-Millionaire status.
We realized the importance of a solid educational foundation, and began investing in their real estate investing education.
We have spent over $150,000 on boot camps, seminars, coaching and home study courses from such authorities as Ron LeGrand, Louis Brown, , Dan Kennedy, Bill Glazer, Jeff Kaller, Kris Kirchner, Robyn Thompson and Kathy Kennebrook. We learned how to find profitable deals, market properties to sell them quickly, get the best tenants, how to find the best financing and the best contractors and much more.
